📍 European Parliament, Strasbourg
Next week, Kilian Daly, our Executive Director , will join policymakers and experts at a EUFORES breakfast debate in the European Parliament to tackle exactly this challenge.
Killian will focus on:
- Rising electricity demand from data centres.
- Risks to power prices and grid stability.
- Why how data centres source electricity is crucial.
- How when data centres consumer can matter as much as how much they consume.
- How policy can align AI growth with Europe’s clean energy goals — not undermine them.
The breakfast will be chaired by MEP Nicolás González Casares and feature insights from leading experts:
🔹 Matthias Spielkamp, Executive Director, AlgorithmWatch.
🔹 Pierre Terras, Program Lead for Corporate, Finance & Utilities, Beyond Fossil Fuels.
🔹 Killian Daly, Executive Director, EnergyTag.
With the rapid growth of data centres driving up electricity demand, and the European Commission preparing a labelling scheme and minimum standards under the Energy Efficiency Directive in March 2026, this debate is timely and highly relevant.
The breakfast will offer a space for a focused exchange on how policy can balance innovation, competitiveness, and Europe’s clean energy goals.
