Hourly Guarantees of Origin

Reel Energy and Granular Energy have been able to test in a sandbox environment the upcoming new hourly GO system in Denmark developed by Energinet. The pilot demonstrates how real-time renewable energy reporting enhances transparency and accuracy in reflecting the grid’s real-time activity, enabling greater flexibility in clean energy procurement.

Key takeaways:

  1. The pilot demonstrates that Granular Guarantees of Origin (GGOs) enable precise, real-time documentation of renewable energy use by certifying when and where clean electricity was produced and consumed.
  2. The pilot demonstrates interest for the implementation of this system to optionally replace traditional GOs in Denmark.
  3. By matching five Danish companies, including GENAN A/S and Baettr Lem A/S, on an hourly, weekly, and monthly basis, the pilot shows how GGOs support detailed Scope 2 emissions reporting, and align with Greenhouse Gas Protocol updates.

Next steps:

  1. Implement this system in production to issue GGO (as an opt-in) instead of traditional GOs.
