About

AsiaREC, a Hong Kong based registry, and Granular Energy match offshore wind generation from the 300 MW Haizhou wind farm, owned by Zhejiang Zheneng Linhai Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., against electricity consumption at a TonyTech site in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. TonyTech wanted a reliable energy attribute tracking system to meet international ESG expectations. Chinese Green Electricity Certificates (GECs) were used as the tracking instrument, delivered through a bundled PPA. Since some GECs are pooled on a retailer level, the project had to work with the retailers to determine which certificates were allocated to which end users. The matching follows a temporal methodology aligned with EnergyTag guidelines. Granular Energy, an EnergyTag-accredited GC issuer, enabled the time matching. AsiaREC entered a data sharing agreement with the involved parties to acquire the generation and consumption data.

Key takeaways:

1

Demonstrated hourly matching of offshore wind to a single industrial consumption site in China.

2

Showed that pooling of GECs at the grid or retailer level makes it necessary to identify which GECs are allocated to which end user.

3

Identified data privacy sensitivity as the main challenges for time-based matching in the Chinese context.
