Electrify Faster: What COP31 Must Deliver

COP31 is weeks away. After a year of climate impacts and energy insecurity, the case for moving away from fossil fuels has never been clearer, and electrification paired with renewables is the fastest way to get there.

Ahead of the summit, Subak is bringing together co-hosts Trifecta Energy, TransitionZero, Ember and EnergyTag, along with Irish Government Ministers and EU representatives, to focus on what is needed at COP31. Our Executive Director, Killian Daly, will explain why European industry isn’t electrifying, how hard-to-hedge power prices make investment risky, and which market reforms could de-risk it, from round-the-clock clean power to hybrid PPAs and smarter auctions.

When: Thursday 5 November 2026, 10:00–11:00 UK/IE (11:00–12:00 CET).
Where: Online (Google Meet).

What you’ll hear

  • The evidence: where global electrification stands, and what 35 by 35 means for transport, heating, bills and energy security.
  • The plan: how governments can plan clean power, grids and flexibility to keep electrification affordable and reliable.
  • The fix: why European industry isn’t electrifying, and which market reforms could de-risk investment.
  • The ask: what a strong COP31 outcome looks like for Ireland and the EU, and what must not be traded away.
  • The message for COP31: Eamon Ryan and Darragh O’Brien on what can be carried into the negotiations.
