Market Lessons from Clean Energy Roadmap in Thailand
Last week, EnergyTag joined industry leaders in Thailand for the Innopower Clean Energy Roadmap event to discuss the evolution of regional power markets and the growing global momentum toward hourly clean energy matching.
The event opened with remarks from khun Cholachit Vorawangso Virakul, Assistant Secretary General of EECO, and khun Athip Tantivorawong, Director and CEO of INNOPOWER. Speakers from RE100 and EnergyTag traveled from overseas to share their insights, and INNOPOWER shared practical decarbonization solutions for businesses.
Shailesh Telang delivered a presentation highlighting why temporal granularity is becoming critical for global power markets. Using India’s round-the-clock (RTC) tender frameworks as a successful model, he mapped out a clear architecture for other markets looking to transition: granular shortfall accountability, developer configuration flexibility, and clearly defined temporal demand windows.
In his presentation, Shailesh laid out the key lessons for other markets:
– Define when electricity is needed.
– Firmness does not have to be uniform.
– Make shortfall accountability granular.
– Give developers configuration flexibility.
– Create routes for excess generation.
– Build on existing market rules.
