Climate Week NYC 2025
This week at New York Climate Week, our US Lead Alex Piper joined a powerful discussion on “Tackling the energy trilemma – security, affordability and sustainability”, focussing on 24/7 Carbon-free energy and granular accounting.
With co-panellist Katherine Tjandra of AirTrunk and moderator Jenny Kwan of WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the session explored how we can deliver clean, reliable, and affordable energy while meeting the growing demand from new large loads like data centers.
🔑 Key takeaways from Alex’s intervention:
- ➡️ Granular accounting is not just possible – it’s effective, efficient, affordable, and feasible.
- ➡️ It must become the standard Scope 2 process, with 24/7 CFE as the journey companies embark on from that foundation.
- ➡️ Integrity matters: the world’s largest energy users should be held to higher standards give them to chance to show real leadership, with common-sense flexibilities built in for smaller consumers.
- ➡️ Policymakers and regulators need to integrate granular matching into rules for large new loads, lowering costs for ratepayers while mitigating against situations where companies can claim 100% clean operations based on clean energy from another place and time, even as new gas is brought online to power them.
At EnergyTag, we’re working to make honest and transparent electricity accounting the global norm, because credible accounting is where real decarbonisation begins.
